The challenge
STUSH is an earned-wage-access platform built for hourly and shift-based workers who often earn money days before they actually receive it. Traditional payroll creates a gap between work completed and cash available, leaving workers exposed to overdrafts or short-term borrowing even when the wages have already been earned. STUSH closes that gap by connecting employment and financial data, calculating verified earnings as work is completed, and presenting them through a live Stush Balance that users can access before payday. Users can see what they’ve earned, withdraw eligible funds when needed, and have their balances reconciled against verified payroll data rather than waiting for the next pay cycle.
The solution
Margins developed the mobile and admin platform that brings identity, payroll, banking and payment services into a single wage-access experience. Users move from onboarding and account verification into linked financial accounts, live earnings tracking, withdrawals and repayment, while the backend reconciles balances against verified work and payroll information. The system applies withdrawal limits, dynamic buffers, pay-period logic and risk controls before funds are made available, helping prevent users from accessing more than they can safely repay. Plaid integrations support identity verification and financial connectivity, while the wider platform includes subscription management, notifications, bill detection, fraud and AML controls, plus an administrative environment for monitoring users, repayments, risk policies and operational activity. What would otherwise require multiple disconnected financial systems is presented to the user as a simple mobile experience centred on one question: how much of what I’ve already earned can I safely access now?
