The challenge
Small local food producers rarely have the time, money, or technical skills to sell online. We interviewed dozens of them and heard the same story again and again: launching their own e-commerce webshop had crossed their minds, but it always seemed too complex to attempt. A year before Covid-19, our client approached us with an idea for an easy-to-use marketplace for locally grown food — and since we also wanted to support small, independent producers, we took it on.
The solution
By moving inventory management and transaction processing outside the platform and giving suppliers full control over how they operate, Locavore quickly scaled to become the largest local food marketplace in Croatia within just one year. Customers can easily search by postcode or explore the interactive map to find fresh, local produce, place orders, arrange delivery or pickup, and view ratings—all from home. For suppliers, the platform provides visibility, simple order management, and a streamlined way to grow sales and coordinate deliveries, creating a simple experience for both sides of the marketplace.
